Facebook Page Review

For this blog I was asked to look at local New Hampshire business pages and review them. Since I personally do not like any New Hampshire business pages I decided to turn to my trusting friend Google for some help. Google did some major searching, and 116million in a matter of seconds! So here is my review of the New Hampshire Facebook business pages, well a review of three pages instead of the 116 million
.

Business NH Magazine Facebook

The first page I decided to look at was Business NH Magazine, it had 384 likes. I was not very impressed with the Business NH Magazine Facebook page itself here is why. The cover photo was a photo of what I can assume to be an upcoming event. I am not sure of this though. The cover photo says Lean and Green Awards 2012, I am not really sure what that has to do with the business or if it was necessary to use as the cover photo.
Looking through the posts on the wall, I noticed that the person running the Facebook page, posts a few times a week, which is positive. It is important to keep an active page. It would have been nice to see questions that would result in feedback. However, there are a few comments, but I think there could be more if page manager could post open ended question to get some attention to the page.
The page also has photos on it. The photos do not really have and explanation so I did not really know who the people I was looking at are and why they were important. I would also like to make a quick comment on some of the posts. Some of the posts were in Twitter language, and it does not look to professional to be using Twitter Language on Facebook. See what I am talking about by clicking Business NH Magazine.

Art for Life Tattoo

The Art for Life Tattoo Facebook page has 4, 826 likes, leading me to believe that the manager of the page knows how to advertise well. The cover photo is a picture of different tattoos and the business logo. This business is located in Keene, NH and if you know anything about Keene, it is a college town, which I can assume means they are reaching out to college students.
The posts on the page are pictures of tattoos the artists have created. I find this interesting to see the range of art that can be made into tattoos. Most of the photos have multiple likes and comments. I really liked how they respond to the people visiting the site. It allows people to see types of tattoos and to get the name of your business out to the public. People like to comment on what they can see, so the different pictures give the audience and idea of the artwork, and allow people to comment on it.
In the photo albums the manger posts and album for each tattoo artist. This gives the viewer an idea of the different artists’ capability. There is also an album that shows what the parlor looks like. This gives people an idea of what people are going to walk in on. This album also shows people a clean work environment. I think the Facebook manager is doing a good job keeping people interested in the business. Check out the page here.

Haunted Overload

I really enjoyed this page, it might be because of the time of year but Haunted Overload in Lee NH did a good job. Haunted Overload has over 2,000 likes. They had contests which always attracts attention to the page. As a follow up to the contest, they posted who the winner was. Haunted Overload also posted questions for people to answer allowing for feedback and interaction.
Haunted Overload had a good photo album and people liked to comment on the pictures they posted. They also had announcements about their new Instagram page, and a photo album showing the Instagram photos. They also had an events page which informed viewers about the events that will be happening soon.
The final thing I will comment on is their postings. On Tuesday the Haunted Overload, posts a trivia question and give people the opportunity to win free passes. The page did a really good job getting people to like the page. Click to get spooked

I tried to some up my life in three minutes, it was not an easy task. Here is some basic information about my life. I like to think someday I will be famous. My friend and I like to joke that if we get famous one day, then the televison station E! will some up our lives and make and E! true Hollywood story about our livees. Whenever something crazy happens we like to say " hey, this is just part of your story1." As I like to say, I am Nikki Romanuk and this is my E! true hollywood story! (This video could only be three minutes, so here is what you need to know in three minutes.)

I want you to “Like” Me!

Facebook is the new trend for advertising. What once was a place for college kids to get to know each other is now a place for businesses to advertise and inform customers about themselves and upcoming promotions. Why is having a Facebook business page so important to companies?  How does a business get the word out that they have a Facebook page? How does a business or company get people to “like” their page? All of these questions will be answered in this post.

Facebook is the newest trend of marketing and communicating. Before Facebook other trends of business communication included websites, and toll free numbers. A Facebook business page is different from a Facebook profile page, a Facebook business page is about branding your business, opening channels of communication, and building credibility and good will with customers and fans. The first step to getting people to like your Facebook page is to create a page. Before you can create a page you need to figure out what types of Facebook page do you want to create. So the real first step would be to create goals of what page your business wants to create. Do you want a business page that will share information about your company? Do you want a fan page where people can comment and win prizes? Knowing what your goals are for creating a Facebook page will help you create one.
Once you have successfully created your Facebook page, you need to get the word out there. Part of having a Facebook page is to get people to “like” your page. The way people can like you is to get the word out about your page. A start would be to reach out to people who already like you. What do I mean by this? Well if you are a business then you have other forms of mediums in which you can get the word out about you Facebook page. A company can use their websites to announce the page, and connect a link to the page. A company can also send out a newsletter or an email announcing the page. After you get some traffic directed to your page, a business or company get attract more people by creating content.

It has been mentioned that the average Facebook user has 190 friends. Once a newly established Facebook page has a few friends, they can use the people who “like” them to spread the word to their friends to get the word out. If a company wants to get the word out about their Facebook page, the company has to have to some interesting content on their page. Ways to get people to “like” your page is to have contests and giveaways. When creating a Facebook giveaway or contest, the company or business must have a valid prizes and valid rules which contestants can easily access. Another way to get people to your page is to prompt questions. People love to voice their opinions about everything and anything. Open ended questions about relevant topics could potentially go viral allowing free press to your page. Staying active is the most important thing to do when you want people to “like” your page.

There are some posts a company wants to avoid on their Facebook page. Some of the things to avoid when posting on Facebook, and this might be obvious but all posts should be positive. Negativity attracts unwanted attention to your page, plus most people want to read positive messages not negative ones. You also want to avoid saying stuff like “don’t forget to like out page”, “TGIF what are you doing this weekend” and avoid writing in an all capitals.  When posting in all capitals it seems to the reader that you are yelling them, and no one wants to be yelled at. Remember the goal of a Facebook page is to get people to “like” you, if you yell all the time the chance is your page will be unliked soon.

Facebook is a useful tool when it comes to communicating with your clients. Getting people to “like” you is hard, but once you establish a foundation, it is worth it. For more information about getting people to “like” you click here!

Demographics of Social Media

It is weird to think that when I was going up we had a dial up internet. It is also weird to think that social networking was not big until I was in my sophomore year of high school. I recently read some Pew articles; “Pew Internet: Social Media” and “Older Adults and Internet Use”. These two articles where about the different statistics of the social media and who is using not only the internet but also social media sites.
The statistics in the “Pew Internet: Social Media” article reported that ore women use social media than men do. This was not too surprising based on what we know about men and women; women are more likely to share their thoughts than men are. The article went on to say that ages 18-49 are the majority of social media users. This also did not really surprise me based on the fact that Facebook, one of the main social media sites, was created for college kids. What surprised me was the breakdown of the social media. According to the article Hispanics are the majority of social media users with 72%, followed by Black, non-Hispanics with 68% and White, non-Hispanics with 64%. I guess I really did not break down social media to a race factor so I thought that fact was interesting to read.

The breakdown facts of the social media were also interesting to me. When it came down to the type of social media the results looked like this; Linkedin the average age is 40 years old and older. 63% of men use Linkedin while 37% or women use Linkedin. The facts about Linked in got me thinking as to why men would use Linkedin over women. Could it be that men are used to being the support systems and are looking for jobs constantly? I am not too sure about that fact. The Myspace data also surprised me. The fact that people still use Myspace was a shocking fact, but also that people younger than 32 years old with fewer years of formal education was also very shocking. When Myspace first came out and got popular, I was in high school, and I was against it. Myspace became a way of promoting music and I am guessing is still used for music instead of keeping in touch. Finally the statics for what I consider the most popular social media sites Twitter and Facebook. The average user for Facebook was 38 years old. I found this shocking because I assumed that young kids and college students used Facebook to stay in touch with each other. The average age for Twitter was 33years old. Again, I assumed that younger kids and college kids used Twitter to find out the news and pay attention to the celebrity gossip.

The Pew article titled “Older adults and Internet Use” talks about people 65years and older using the new technology such as cellphones, laptops, emails, and the internet. This article was an interesting read. It did not surprise me that 69% of seniors own a cellphone. My grandparents do not like technology, they do not even own air conditioner, but they do own a cellphone. My grandparents do not use this cell phone unless there is an emergency or the power goes out but they do own one. So the fact that seniors own cellphones did not really surprise me too much. What did surprise me was 32% own laptops, and 48% use desktops. I know my grandfather down have a laptop, but he needed one for his work. A laptop for him was cheaper and easier to put away then a desktop. What also surprised me was the 86% of people 65 years and older use email. From my experience with my grandparents, if I went away to school I would receive snail mail from them. My grandparents are old fashioned like that, which I might add I love! To think that other people’s grandparents email them surprised me! The final surprise was that one in three senior’s use social networking. I feel social networking is a younger people tool. I think I would laugh really hard if one day my Gram Facebooked me.
Social media is growing every day. There is always a new type of social media popping up. I think it is very interesting to see the age groups of social media. it is also weird to me that my parents have Facebook. I know my sister will never accept our parents as friends on Facebook based on the fact that she does not want them meddling in her life. I did not really care about my parents being on Facebook until my mother started talking to my friends. To me I think parents should have their own friends and not comment on their children’s friends but that is personal opinion. To finally end this post I will say, these two Pew articles taught me that there are many different demographics when it comes to social media. Knowing different demographics use different social media sites is a helpful tool for businesses and advertisers. This two articles help me understand that.
